Section 2, Article 5F of GCG Memorandum Circular No. 2012-05 mandates all appointive directors and CEOs of Government-Owned or Controlled Corporations (GOCCs) to attend a special seminar on public Corporate Governance within 3 months from one’s date of appointment.
This GCG-accredited webinar is to fulfill your compliance requirement to attend a corporate governance training designed to guide you to be an effective director or CEO of a GOCC.
This two-session foundational course will cover topics including principles of governance, duties and responsibilities of the Board as a collegial body and as individual members, performance management, accountability of public officers, best practices, and more!
He is a former Commissioner of the Governance Commission for Government-Owned or Controlled Corporations (GCG), where he played a key role in overseeing the performance, governance standards, and accountability mechanisms of more than 100 GOCCs nationwide. His work involved reviewing corporate governance practices, evaluating performance scorecards, and ensuring that GOCCs adhered to the mandates of the GOCC Governance Act of 2011.
A seasoned lawyer and public servant, he has held significant roles in the executive and legislative branches of government, including the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Senate of the Philippines, where he headed the Legal Office under the Office of the Senate President. He also served as Assistant Secretary and Committee Secretary of the Consultative Committee tasked with drafting a proposed Federal Constitution.
He earned his Doctor of Laws degree magna cum laude from the University of Santo Tomas, completed his Master of Laws at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, and obtained his Law degree from San Sebastian College-Recoletos. He further completed specialized programs in public policy at the KDI School of Public Policy and Management in South Korea and the Singapore Civil Service College.
Course Overview:
This two-session webinar provides an introduction to corporate governance specifically to Appointive Directors of Government-Owned or Controlled Corporations (GOCCs).
